How long have you been blogging? I’ve been blogging for about four years, it’s such a huge part of my life now!

Why did you switch from The Perfect Pear to Lauren by Design? The Perfect Pear was started a little less than four years ago and during that time I began to take blogging very seriously and started blogging professionally. As I continued to keep blogging and designing I felt that The Perfect Pear didn’t represent who I was and who I wanted my blog to be, it felt time to have a more professional name! And that’s where Lauren by Design came in!

Where did you come up with the name Lauren by Design? Well you should first know that I’ve been a pretty crafty person my whole life! It was when I started blogging that got me into the graphic design side of things and I’ve never looked back. Essentially, I owe a lot to design and blogging for who I am today. That’s why, by design, I am who I am. Lauren by design.

What got you into blogging and looking back do you have any tips for new bloggers? I actually started blogging about a month after the movie Julie and Julia came out (love that movie, Meryl Streep is phenomenal) and it’s basically about Julia Child and a blogger name Julie Powell who becomes famous, and I thought “that looks like fun”. The rest is history! As far as new tips, I would definitely say to keep blogging about what you are so so so in love with and passionate about. When you do that you inspire other people! I’d also say that it’s incredibly important to have a design that represents you the best, and also make sure your photos stretch the whole width of your post area, it’ll make a huge difference for your design, I promise!

Can I share something of yours on my blog, like a DIY or recipe? Absolutely, and how kind of you! All I ask is that you don’t post the whole DIY on your blog without my explicit permission (like an email) and that you give me full credit with links! :)

Will you feature my product on your blog?  It depends! I’ve done product reviews before and they’re really fun, however it has to be something that falls in line with my blog! If you have a product that you’d like to be featured on LBD send me an email.

Do you take guest bloggers?  Yes, and in facts it encouraged! However, I’m very picky about the quality of the photos and the post itself! If you have a post idea that you’d like to pitch to me, I would love to hear from you.

I have a business around Kelowna/Vancouver, would you be willing to write a post about us? Yes! If I am passionate about your business and it fits the aesthetic of my blog then I would love to feature you, and maybe have you do a giveaway as well. Please email me for more information.

Did you design your blog? Yes! And I can design a beautiful blog/website for you too!

Do you prefer Blogger, WordPress or Squarespace?  Gosh, this is hard question! They’re all so great for different reasons, and honestly I love them all! I think if you’re a new blogger, then using Blogger is perfect! It’s very user friendly and there are a lot of tutorials out there to help you if you need it. However it does need more work then say Squarespace to make a beautiful design, but it definitely can be done! I love Squarespace because it’s so user friendly and has so many already gorgeous templates for all kinds of creatives. I’d highly recommend Squarespace to anyone looking for a nice portfolio website, it’s also very responsive, and their customer service is great! For WordPress, I found it the hardest to learn, but once you understand the layout its pretty easy to use. I’d recommend using WordPress if you’re willing to learn a lot about it, spend a lot of money on a great design or spend a lot of time designing it yourself. It’s an absolutely great tool, but like fine wine, it take’s time! If you have any specific questions, don’t be afraid to email me, I’d love to help you out!

How did you get into graphic design?  Blogging! I’d always be editing my photos, using photoshop and adding text for my posts so I had to learn all the tricks! From there I absolutely fell in love and in 2012 I started designing blogs for other people!

Will you design other things that aren’t listed on your design section; like wedding invitations and calendars?  I’m always open to new ideas and possibilities! If you have an idea for a collaboration, just send me an email!
